Eurotrip 3/3

A última etapa da viagem foi Londres, onde comprei de cara uma caneta Posca preta 0.7mm. Experimentei usar a ponta da caneta com mais ou menos pressão, e consegui os resultados dos quais mais gostei. O primeiro lugar que visitei foi a praça Trafalgar, famosa pela estátua do Almirante Nelson e as de quatro leões, chafarizes, artistas de rua e a Galeria Nacional.

The last part of the trip was London, where I bought a black Posca 0.7 mm pen. I tried using the tip of the pen with varied pressure, and got results which I did like! The first place I visited was Trafalgar square, famous for its statue of Admiral Nelson and the four lions, water fountains, lots of street artists and the National Gallery.

A próxima parada foi a Praça do Parlamento, onde desenhei as Casas do Parlamento e o famoso Big Ben (Torre Elizabeth). Apesar de ter gostado do resultado final, penso que deveria ter enxugado um pouco mais os detalhes. Também achei uma pena ter ficado tão de longe, pois a praça em si estava em reforma, e tive de ficar um pouco mais afastado.

Next stop: Parliament square, where I sketched the Houses of Paliament and the Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower). Though I like the result, I think I should have used less details. Such a shame I had to be far away too, since the square itself was being remodelled.

O mercado Leadenhall serviu de locação para dois filmes Harry Potter, apesar de ser um local com algumas poucas lojas e franquias de comida. Bem elegante, por sinal, me chamaram muito a atenção os detalhes de dragões nas colunas do local. O camarada à esquerda estava falando do apartamento novo... reclamou que, apesar de muito bom, era 'grande demais'.

Leadenhall Market served as scenario for two Harry Potter films, though it's a place with a couple of shops and food franchises. Very elegant, what caught my attention were the dragon details on top of the columns. The gentleman on the left was talking about his new flat... complaining that it was 'too big', though it was good.

Um dos pontos que mais gostei de desenhar foi a Tower Bridge. Havia acabado de visitar o local, e aproveitei para desenhar e entender melhor os detalhes da estrutura. O dia estava ensolarado, e havia bastante gente sentada à sombra de um prédio próximo. Gostei da economia de detalhes nas partes mais distantes das torres, e aproveitei para colar o bilhete de entrada que havia usado antes.

One of the places I liked sketching the most was Tower Bridge. I'd just visited there, and took the chance to sketch it and learn about its structure and details. It was a sunny day, and there were many people sitting under the shade of a nearby building. I like the economy of details in the further parts of the towers, and decided to stick the ticket I used during the visit.

Na catedral de Westminster, eu resolvi experimentar um pouco de distorção. Havia um casal de turistas que demorou bastante tirando fotos, tempo o suficiente para que eu pudesse incluí-los no desenho. Um guarda que estava por perto ficou curioso e pediu para ver o que eu estava fazendo, e achou interessante que eu houvesse entortado a catedral. Prometi a ele que não tinha causado danos à estrutura do prédio, só mesmo o desenho estava torto.

At Westminster Cathedral, I decided to try out some distortion. There was a couple of tourists taking photos for a long time, so I decided to include them in the sketch. A guard was curious to see my drawing, and found interesting the fact that I bent the cathedral. I promised him I caused no damage to the structure of the building!

De volta à praça Trafalgar, foi hora de desenhar a Galeria Nacional. Isso me tomou dois dias, pois começou a chover bastante na minha primeira tentativa, mas pude concluir no segundo. Apesar de ter gostado da forma como lidei com os detalhes para destacar certas áreas, fico com pena de não ter usado o vermelho em algumas partes (e decidi não fazê-lo em casa).

Back to Trafalgar square, it was time to sketch the National Gallery. It took me two days, since it started raining a lot during my first try, but I managed to finish it on the following day. Though I like the way I used more or less details to highlight some areas, I would have liked some red in the sketch (but decided not to use it later, at home).

Como tudo que é bom chega ao fim, eis o último desenho da viagem, feito em um momento de relaxamento num parque próxima à rua Oxford. Perto de mim, havia um homem ouvindo umas músicas em idioma que eu desconheço, fumando um cigarro, bem sossegado; famílias conversando, crianças brincando, algumas pessoas dormindo. Encostei em uma árvore e peguei uma caneta pincel, pois queria experimentar algo diferente e ir devagar. Alguns amigos disseram que foi o desenho de que mais gostaram. Eu, sinceramente, não sei julgar isso. Gostei das várias experiências que pude fazer durante um mês desenhando livremente, e Londres, de fato, foi onde senti que estava mais perto de um desenho 'sincero'.

Everything that's good has to end, so this is the the last sketch of this trip, done in a relaxing moment in a park near Oxford street. Near me, there was a man listening to music sung in a language I don't know, smoking a cigarette and chilling out; families chatting, children playing, some people sleeping. I sat by a tree, got a brush pen because I wanted to try out something different and work slowly. Some friends said it's the sketch they like the most. I honestly can't choose one. I like the variety of experiences I had during one month sketching freely, and London, in fact, was where I felt closer to an 'honest' drawing.
