Recentemente, andei pensando sobre as mudanças que tive desde que comecei a estudar desenho, e claro, meu estilo de desenhar também. Apesar de gostar de técnicas demoradas (como pontilhismo), às vezes preciso desenhar bem rápido e de forma bem mais simples, e pode ser complicado se familiarizar com o que está surgindo no papel.
Ano passado, viajei para alguns lugares diferentes, para ver uma exposição de arte (Hieronymus Bosch), visitar uma amiga (Beatrice), desenhar e visitar alguns lugares novos, outros familiares. Farei aqui um post incluindo a primeira parte da viagem (Amsterdã, Madri e Florença). Num segundo momento, Veneza e Oxford, e por fim, os desenhos de Londres.
Amsterdã foi onde eu menos desenhei. Não consegui dormir direito, tive poucos dias e quis fazer muita coisa: visitar vários lugares, não soube aproveitar bem os dias chuvosos, e confesso que tive preguiça parte do tempo quando deveria estar desenhando. Esse desenho foi feito na Museumplein (Praça dos Museus, onde decidi desenhar o Rijksmuseum, um museu nacional holandês), ao fim de um dia chuvoso, depois de uma soneca na grama. Tinha gente por perto fazendo piquenique, jogando bola e até namorando. Honestamente, não gosto tanto do desenho, e foi a primeira vez que usei uma Pentel pocket brush pen.
These days, I was thinking about how much I've changed since I started studying drawing, and of course I was wonderning about my drawing style too. Though I usually like techniques that will take a long time to finish a drawing (such as stippling), I sometimes have to sketch in a much simpler way, and it can be difficult to find yourself familiar with what you see on the paper.
Last year, I took a trip around different places, in order to see an art exhibition (Hieronymus Bosch), see a friend (Beatrice), sketch and visit new places, such as familiar ones. I'll post the first part here, that includes Amsterdam, Madrid and Florence. In a second moment, I'll post my Venice and Oxford sketches and later the London ones.
Amsterdam was the place I sketched the least. Couldn't sleep well, had just a few days and lots to do: places to visit, rainy days not well enjoyed, and I confess I was a little lazy to catch a sketchbook and start working. This sketch was made at the Museumplein (Museum Square, where I decided to sketch the Rijksmuseum, a Dutch national museum), at the end of a rainy day, after a long nap on the grass. There were people around having a picnic, playing football and even dating. Honestly, I don't like this sketch so much, and it was the first time I used a Pentel pocket brush pen.
Madri, segunda cidade da agenda, foi fascinante! Dei uma boa andada pela cidade, e parei no Mercado de San Miguel pra comer gaspacho, batata brava (apimentada) e tomar umas cervejas. No dia seguinte, sábado, fui aos museus Thyssen Bornemisza e Prado. Depois da exibição do Bosch, parei numa praça perto do Prado para desenhar a Igreja de San Jeronimo. Tinha um camarada tocando violão ali perto, e me senti super bem com a trilha sonora.
No dia seguinte, domingo, fui a uma tour guiada por Madri, então tive pouco tempo pra parar e desenhar por lá. Depois de uma bela jornada pela história da Espanha, parei na Plaza Mayor e fui desenhar. Os relógios têm, sim, horários diferentes! Não sei dizer o motivo, mas lembro da guia contar que um deles toca somente uma vez ao ano, se não estou enganado. Outra coisa legal foi ver vários artistas vendendo seu trabalho no local, e mesmo não tendo falado com eles, me senti super confortável.
On the next day, a Sunday, I had a guided tour around Madrid, which gave me little time to stop and sketch during the walk. After a lovely journey through Spanish history, I stopped by the Plaza Mayor to sketch the view. The clocks do have different times, I can't remember why, but the guide told us one of them only strikes once a year, if I'm not wrong. Another interesting thing is that there were lots of artists selling their work there, and though I didn't interact with any of them, I felt comfortable to know they were there.
Depois de três ótimos dias, fui para a quente e tumultuada Florença. A viagem começou com atraso, pois tivemos de mudar o destino para o aeroporto de Pisa, por questões climáticas. Florença é maravilhosa, arte pra todo lado, inspiradora... o primeiro desenho surgiu enquanto eu esperava a roupa lavar. Foi simples, só uma casinha típica de lá (e sim, resolvi tirar alguns 'cabos' do desenho, dessa vez).
After three lovely days, I headed to warm and crowded Florence. The journey started with a short delay, because we had last-minute changes. We were going to Pisa, not Florence, due to the wind. Of course, the city is amazing, and you see art everywhere. The first sketch happened as I was doing the laundry and found myself with plenty of time in the morning. Just sketched a simple house in the street (yes, I decided to 'clean' some wires from the drawing this time).
As cores da cidade me levaram a procurar uma caneta sépia, que achei que iria casar bem com o local. Infelizmente, a loja de materiais de arte estava fechada, e tive que matar o tempo com algo até depois do almoço. Peguei uma caneta bico de pena e sentei perto da Basilica de Santa Croce um pouco. Muita gente por lá, transeuntes curiosos com o que eu fazia. Gosto bastante dessa minha 'rápida impressão' do local. Comecei a sentir que estava chegando a algum lugar com meus desenhos (apesar de que já havia gostado dos de Madri também).
The colours of the city made me head to an art shop and buy a sepia pen, which I found would suit the place really well. Unfortunately, as I had to wait until the shop opened after lunch, I got a nib pen and sat down near the Basilica de Santa Croce to sketch a little. Lots of people everywhere, passers-by getting curious to know what I was doing. I really like my quick impression of the place. I started feeling I was getting somewhere with my drawings (though I felt very well about the ones from Madrid too).
Por fim, fui ao centro da cidade desenhar o Palazzo Vecchio (Palácio Velho), sede da prefeitura de Florença e museu, que possui obras de artistas importantes, tais como Michelângelo Buonarroti e Giorgio Vasari. Você deve estar se perguntando se não desenhei a Catedral de Santa Maria del Fiore. De fato, sim, inclusive começando pelo domo, mas ficou incompleto e eu não gosto muito dele. Então, decidi que vou ter de voltar lá um dia pra fazer um trabalho decente (e tomar sorvete num dos ótimos lugares ali por perto).
To finish with, I went to the city centre and sketched the Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) with my new sepia pen, still mixing with some blacks here and there. Palazzo Vecchio is the Florentine town hall, but also a museum with works from many important local artists, such as Michelangelo Buonarroti and Giorgio Vasari. I know you might be asking why I didn't sketch the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. The truth is I did, starting by the duomo (dome), but I confess the sketch is very poor and incomplete, so I decided to go there again some day and do a decent job (and have ice cream in one of the shops around there).
