Sim, já comecei a postagem com uma foto. Fiz esse desenho em frente ao Grande Canal de Veneza, de forma super espontânea. Depois de andar bastante desde a estação de trem até aqui, minha amiga Bea e eu nos sentamos um pouco para descansar. Vimos as gôndolas flutuando, o cheiro salgado do mar, vários pássaros, turistas colocando o pé na água, aí eu peguei o caderno e resolvi registrar o momento. Depois, fomos a um restaurante comer macarrão - claro!
Yes, I've started with a picture this time. This drawing was really spontaneous, and I'll tell you why: after walking from the train station to the Grande Canal, my friend Bea and I decided to sit down and relax a bit. I saw the gondolas floating, the salty smell of the sea, many birds, tourists trying to step in the water, and so I got my sketchbook and decided to register the moment. We went to a restaurant to have some pasta after that - of course!
Oxford parecia ideal pra usar a caneta sépia novamente. Comecei na torre Carfax, no centro da cidade. Uma torre alta, antigamente usada como observatório para se defender de invasões.
Oxford seemed to be the ideal place for my sepia pen. I started with Carfax Tower, in the city centre. A high one, used in the past as a watching tower, to help defend from invaders.
A Câmera Radcliffe, que pude visitar em uma tour pelas bibliotecas, recebe o nome de John Radcliffe, um rico e notável médico, cuja herança serviu para a construção do prédio. Apesar de ser uma construção antiga, as instalações são bem modernas por dentro. Foi engraçado saber que, no começo, os bibliotecários tiveram problemas com o armazenamento de livros, por conta do formato cilíndrico do prédio.
The Radcliffe Camera, which I visited in a library tour, was named after John Radcliffe, a wealthy and notable doctor, who left a huge estate after he died. Though it's an old building, the place itself is very modern inside. It's interesting to know that, in the beginning, librarians had troube keeping things in order due to the round shape of the building.
A Igreja de Santa Maria, a Virgem, fica bem em frente à câmera Radcliffe, e antes de desenhar o lugar, eu fui ao topo da torre apreciar a vista maravilhosa que se tem dali de cima. O lugar várias gárgulas, e eu fiquei apaixonado pelos detalhes!
The church of Saint Mary the Virgin is right in front of the Radcliffe camera, and before sketching the place, I could climb the tower and have a wonderful view up there. There are many grotesques, I was totally in love with the details!
Pra terminar minha jornada arquitetônica pela cidade, visitei o Castelo de Oxford. O passeio guiado é bastante rico em histórias e detalhes, e o lugar (que tem inclusive uma parte assombrada) serviu náo somente como abrigo, mas também com prisão. Tinha uma moça muito simpática na lojinha, com quem tive uma ótima conversa e decidi tomar nota.
To finish my architectural trip around the city, I visited Oxford castle. The guided tour is very rich in stories and details, and the place (which has a 'haunted corner') served not only as shelter, but also as a prision. There was a really nice lady working at the shop there, with whom I could have good conversation and decided to take note of it.
Fiz um último desenho no pub Eagle and Child, lugar onde nomes de peso como Tolkien e Lewis costumavam ir beber cerveja. O lugar é bem legal, tranquilo, e o peixe com batatas é excelente! Confesso que foi uma boa escolha pra fechar essa parte da viagem!
I had a last sketch at the Eagle and Child pub, place where important names such as Tolkien and Lewis used to have a beer. It's a cool place, quiet, and the fish and chips are excellent! I confess it was a great place to finish this part of the trip!
